Edward L. “Red” Varel 92 of Bartelso died Tuesday June 5, 2007 at Caring First Nursing Home in Breese

He was born October 29, 1914 in Bartelso to John and Caroline (Roberg) Varel: they preceded him in death 

He married Pauline Haukap April 22, 1941 at St. Boniface Church in Germantown and she preceded him in death June 20, 2002

 Also preceded in death  by brothers Herman, Joseph and Anthony Varel, sisters, Frances Koopmann, Cecilia Koopmann and Ann Varel

 Surviving is a son Edward L. (Nellie) Varel of Rochester NY,

 Daughters Mary Kay (Donald) Korte of Bowling Green KY, Brenda (Terrence) Fyfe of St. Louis, MO

 8 grandchildren Ed Varel, David Varel, Amy Matteson, Brad Korte, Steve Korte, Lance Korte, Christine Arterburn and Jonathan Fyfe 

7 great grandchildren

Red owned and operated Varel’s Store in Bartelso for over 60 years. A navy veteran of WWII

 Member of St, Cecilia Church in Bartelso, Bartelso American Legion post 976, Catholic War Veterans

 Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday June 9, 2007 at 10:00 am at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso with Fr. Henry Fischer officiating. Interment St. Cecilia Cemetery

Visitation will be held on Friday June 8 from 4 to 9 PM and on Saturday June 9 from 8 to 9:30 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown

 Memorials can be made to St. Cecilia Church and will be received at the funeral home
