He married Evelyn Goevert November 20, 1937 at St. Dominic Church in Breese and she survives in Breese

Also surviving are three sons Ronald (Pat) Ess of Manchester, MO, James Ess of Breese and Richard (Nancy) Ess of Breese

5 grandchildren Kimberly (James) Goevert, Jennifer (Fiancee Brian Emigh) Ess, Douglas (Jean) Ess, Debra (Aaron) Maue, Kenneth (fiancee Kay Holtgrave) Ess

Private Funeral Services will be held on Saturday April 12, 2003 at Moss Funeral Home in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating Interment in St. Dominic St. Augustine Cemetery
