Martin L. “Marty” Herbst 73 of Breese died Saturday May 3, 2008 at his residence from complications of lung cancer  

He was born May 9, 1935 in Breese to Edward and Elizabeth (Deien) Herbst: they preceded him in death 

Also preceded in death by a brother Gene Herbst, sisters Elsie Mae Belcher and Ruth Pfister, brother-in-law Delbert Belcher, sister-in-law Dora Ann “Putsy” Herbst 

He married Erla M. Foehner July 16, 1953 at St. John’s Church in Breese, they had 54 wonderful years of marriage together. She survives in Breese 

Also surviving are sons Timothy (Christine) Herbst of Greenville, Daniel (Diana) Herbst of Breese 

3 grandchildren Kyle (Erica) Herbst, Grace and Benjamin Herbst 

1 step grandson Christopher Harris 

2 great grandchildren Beyhlee and Uryjah Herbst 

A sister Betty (Marion) Wood of Collinsville 

A sister-in-law Pat (Melge) Meier Springfield 

Many nieces and nephews 

Mr. Herbst grew up in Breese and was employed by General Motors in St. Louis for 30 years. Following his retirement from GM, he worked for over 15 years at the Mid County Auto Supply in Breese. In additoion to spending time with his family and friends, he was an avid bowler, golfer, and hockey fan. He served at a little league coach, and he had been a member of both the Breese Jaycees and Lions Club. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Breese

Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday May 7, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese 

Visitation will be Wednesday May 7, 2008 from 4:00 to 7:00 Pm at the Moss funeral home 

Memorials can be made to St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery Fund or Good Samaritan Hospice and will be received at the funeral home
