Reginald “Regi” Detmer, 67 of
Bartelso and Breese, died Saturday, July 30, 2011 at his residence
Mr. Detmer was born September 14,
1943 in Breese to Joseph H. and Wilhelmina (Wesselmann) Detmer; they
preceded him in death.
He married Patricia Ratermann on
February 14, 1962 at St. Dominic Church in Breese; she preceded him
in death on February 21, 1998.
Also preceded in death by a son
Jeffrey Detmer; sisters, Dolores Detmer, Evelyn Detmer, and Lorene
Hemker; brothers, Theodore Detmer, Donald Detmer and Joseph Detmer;
father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sylvester and Mary Louise
Ratermann; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry Hemker, Cleta
Detmer, William Athmer, Alice Ratermann, and Tom Jantzen.
He is survived by his wife Julie (Jantzen)
Schlueter-Detmer of Breese, whom he married April 28, 2001 at St.
Cecilia Church in Bartelso; his children, Brian Detmer and Barbara
(Thomas) Johnson all of Bartelso; his grandchildren, Kyle (friend
Abby Book) Detmer, Kristopher Detmer, Jason (Veronica “Roni” Drees)
Detmer, Alicia (Victor “Hugo) Dominguez, Jacob (friend Ariel Kuhl)
Johnson, and Ian (friend Rachel Henkel) Johnson;
great-grandchildren, Yazmin, Victor “Manny”, and Maria Dominguez and
Landon Johnson; step-children, Jackie (Jim) Sprehe of Germantown,
Jill (Jeff) Dorries of O’Fallon, and John (Joline) Schlueter of
Bartelso; step-grandchildren, Julianna and Jessica Sprehe, Joshua,
Jason, and Joelle Dorries, and Lauren Luebbers; a brother, Stanley
Detmer of Bartelso; sisters, Mary (Herman) Huelsmann of Aviston,
Rosalie Athmer of Damiansville; and sisters-in-law and
brothers-in-law, Bernadette Detmer of Trenton, Mary Ellen Detmer of
Breese, and Rita Detmer of Trenton, John Ratermann of Breese, Lenny
(Mary) Ratermann of Pierron, Carl (Vonnie) Ratermann of Breese, Jane
(Richard) Lappe of Breese, Mary (Brent) Heier of Trenton, Jane (Dan)
Rosen of Highland, Ruth (Gene) Loepker of Bartelso, and Suzanne
(Jim) LeRoy of Minnesota.
Regi was a farmer and also retired
as a truck driver from Wilke Truck Service in St. Rose. He was a
member of St. Cecilia Church and Men’s Sodality in Bartelso, past
member of the Agricultural Advisory Board at Central High School,
past president of Clinton County Dairy Herd Improvement Association,
Clinton County Farm Bureau, past member of Teamsters Local
50-Belleville, Charter member of the Gateway Farm Toy Collectors
Club, National Rifle Association, Illinois Tractor Pullers
Association, Founder and President of the Southern Illinois Green
Iron Club, Gateway 2 Cylinder Club, and the American Farm Heritage
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial
will be Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM
at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso with Fr. Henry Fischer
officiating. Interment will follow in
St. Cecilia Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August
2, 2011 from 4:00-9:00 PM and again on Wednesday, August 3, 2011
from 8:00-10:00 AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
Memorials can be made to Heartland Hospice or to the Chakota
Therapeutic Riding Center and will be received at the funeral home.
