Sylvester H. “Stormy” Wempe, Sr., 85 of Breese, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Breese Nursing Home. 

Mr. Wempe was born December 25, 1924 in Aviston to Ben and Helen (Schulte) Wempe; they preceded him in death. 

Also preceded in death by a son, Wally Wempe; a brother, Virgil Wempe; sisters-in-law, Joanna Wempe and Leonarda Wempe; and brothers-in-law, Lawrence Hilmes and Adrian Pike. 

He married Evelyn Yates on September 3, 1947 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese; she survives in Breese. 

Also surviving are his children, Steven (Norma) Wempe of Princeton, Judy (Roger) Newman of Princeton, Helen (Gordon) Poss of Highland, Mike Wempe of Germantown, Wayne (Judy) Wempe of Belleville, Barb (special friend Rick Sorensen) Wempe of Breese, Sylvester “Sly” Wempe, Jr. of Carlyle, and Kevin Wempe of Breese; 16 Grandchildren and 25 Great-Grandchildren; a brother, Bernard Wempe, Jr. of Breese; and a sister, Verena Pike of Ottawa. 

Stormy retired from Scott Air Force Base and Arrow Group Industries in Breese and was a veteran of the United States Army. 

He was a member of St. Dominic Church, Breese American Legion Post 252 and Drill Team. 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese. 

Visitation will be Friday, June 25, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Saturday, June 26, 2010 from 8:00-9:45 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese. 

Memorials can be made to the Breese Nursing Home Activity Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
