Esther Helen Hopkins, age 91, of Shattuc passed away October 17, 2018.

She was born in Brighton, CO on April 28, 1927 to Mabel, nee Cox, and Albert “Walter” Whiting.

Esther married Robert “Bob” Gene Hopkins on February 5, 1946 as he was to be sent to occupied Japan (after WWII) the following week.

She was the school secretary for the Patoka School District for many years and even had a yearbook dedicated to her. Esther also worked with her husband Bob to build a restaurant on Oak St. in Patoka.

After retirement, Esther and Bob enjoyed traveling, trap shooting, and golfing. Esther enjoyed knitting and needle pointing on plastic canvas when she was able. She was an avid reader of Readers Digest Condensed books which she has an extensive collection. Esther loved movies, mostly westerns, especially anything with John Wayne or Clint Eastwood in it.

Surviving are her son Larry Lee (Marsha, nee Myers) Hopkins of Shattuc; grandsons, James (Jessica, nee Buss) Hopkins of Breese and Paul (Judy, nee Langston) Hopkins of Hillsboro; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Skyler, Brooklyn, and Sadie Hopkins.

Esther enjoyed her family, they were important to her and a source of comfort and pride. She kept pictures of her great-grandchildren around her at all times.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, “Bob” Hopkins on June 2, 2012; and brothers, Walter and Jerry Whiting.

Following a private goodbye by family, Esther’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2018 at Pritchett Cemetery in Boulder.

Memorials may be made to HSHS Hospice and will be received through Moss Funeral Home in Breese who is serving the Hopkins family.
