    John V. Ratermann, age 65, of Breese, died Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Aviston Countryside Manor.

     

    Mr. Ratermann was born February 23, 1952 in Breese, a son of the late August and Evelyn, nee Kapp, Ratermann.

     

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ratermann; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vincent and Marcella, nee Peek, Ortmann; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Ortmann.

     

    Surviving is his wife, Eileen, nee Ortmann, Ratermann of Breese whom he married November 12, 1977 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown; daughters, Stephanie (Brent) Goetz of St. Charles, MO and Vicki (Danny Griffiths) Ratermann of St. Louis, MO; 2 grandchildren, Kayla and Danny Griffiths; siblings, George (Joann) Ratermann of St. Louis, MO, Mary (Bill) Schaub of Aviston, Chuck (Lyn) Ratermann of St. Charles, Martha (Glenn) Baer of St. Louis, Margie (Martin) Holtgrave of New Baden, and Clara (Greg) Schuerman of Kansas City, MO; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary (Delmar) Santel of Damiansville and Dave (Sharon) Ortmann of Germantown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     

    Mr. Ratermann was a veteran of the United States Army and was an electrician at Arrow Group Industries in Breese. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, Breese American Legion Post 252, Breese Historical Society where he was a board member, and the Clinton County Historical Society. John enjoyed collecting Breese and Clinton County memorabilia often submitting articles to each Historical Society and also enjoyed researching, locating, and documenting graves at many local cemeteries.

     

    Memorial Mass will be Friday, September 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter and Deacon Linus Klostermann presiding. Burial of the cremains will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.

     

    Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese and again on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese.

     

    Memorials may be made to the Breese Historical Society, Clinton County Historical Society, or St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery and will be received at the funeral home.

     

    The Breese American Legion will hold services at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
