    Joseph R. “Papa” Haar 81 of Breese and formerly of Belleville and Highland died Sunday May 7, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville.

    He was born January 6, 1936 in Breese to August and Lucy (Rohr) Haar: they preceded him in death.

    He married Louise Buchmiller January 30, 1960 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland. She survives in Breese.

    Also surviving are his children Lori Grewe-Broeker of St. Louis, MO, Lisa Williams of New Baden

    6 grandchildren Mitchell, Caroline, Jacqueline Grewe, Taylor (Kate) Williams, Chandler (Cassandra) Williams, Dalton Williams

    1 great grandson Alaric Williams

    A brother Stanley Haar of Highland. Sisters Joan Shalhoub of Afton, MO., Ruth Ann (Bill) Kirby of Kirkwood, MO.

    Preceded in death by a brother Severin Haar, sisters Cleo McKee, Irene Sowul, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Sharon Haar, Bernice Haar, Leon McKee, Sam Shalhoub, Chester Miller, Don Bircher, Connie Lape, Shirley and Felton Tschannen, Tom Buchmiller,

    Joe retired from General Motors after 43 years. He also served with the United States Air Force Reserves.

    Member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council# 2869 and was on the chicken fry committee and chicken wing fry committee. He was a volunteer crossing guard for All Saints Academy, Certified baseball and softball umpire. An avid St. Louis cardinal’s baseball and Blues hockey fan. He was a follower of all Mater Dei High School sports, a golf marshal and enjoyed fishing and his “Snickers” candy bars.

    Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday May 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Breese. Fr. Patrick Peter and Deacon Linus Klostermann presiding. Interment St. Domini-St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese.

    Visitation will be Tuesday May 9 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday May 10, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

    Breese Knights of Columbus members will hold services at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Memorials can be made to St. Jude Research Hospital or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
