Richard J. Hustedde, 81, of Breese, died suddenly Tuesday, January 24, 2017, in Breese.

Known as "Rich" to his family, friends, and loved ones, he was born on September 24, 1935, in Breese, Illinois, to Edwin G. and Cecilia (Sherman) Hustedde. He was a veteran of the United States Army, 128th Infantry 32nd Division, and a US Army Reservist, having served from Oct 27th, 1961 – February 29th, 1964. On April 27, 1963, Rich married the love of his life, Roselyn Jung, and they built their life together in Breese, having celebrated 53 years of marriage. She preceded him in death May 26, 2016.

For more than 25 years, Rich was the owner and operator of "Rich's Sales & Service" in Breese, selling and servicing televisions and electronic equipment in the surrounding towns and counties. His attention to detail was legendary, enjoying the rapport with his many customers and friends.

Rich was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, always lending a supportive hand for both the church and school, and also a member of the Breese Historical Society. He could often be found out and about in Breese and the local communities, enjoying the company of others. Rich never knew a stranger - a simple "Hello" would, many times, lead to a 30-minute conversation. Special times were leisure times with Rosie, working together in their beautiful yard, sitting on the patio reading, discussing health and fitness issues, listening to jazz music and many Cardinal baseball games.

Other favorite pastimes included tinkering with and restoring old bicycles, attending auctions, and cruising around town with Rosie in their convertible. Trips to Tennessee to watch his grandsons play baseball were very special to him.

Rich was known for being a devoted husband to Rosie, a dedicated father to his daughter, Nicole, a doting grandpa to his grandsons, Aidan and Conor, and a man who was kind to everyone he met.

Rich is survived by his daughter, Nicole and husband, Scott Gray of Franklin, Tennessee; two grandsons, Aidan and Conor Gray; his sisters, Marg Beckmann of Breese and Mary Therese (Tom) Molitor of O'Fallon, Illinois; sisters-in-laws, Clare Hustedde of Natick, Massachusetts, Christine (Tom) Thomas of Gilbert, Arizona, Helen Beswick of St. Charles, Illinois and Carolyn (Sam) Bravata of Wyoming, Michigan, and many nieces and nephews.

Rich was preceded in death by his wife, Roselyn, his parents, Edwin & Cecilia Hustedde; brothers, Fr. Edwin H. Hustedde and Jerome Hustedde; his mother & father-in-law, Leona (Diekman) & Clarence Jung; brothers-in-law, Cyril H. Beckmann, Bob Beswick, Clarence Jung, Jr., and infant sister-in-law, Marilyn Jung.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 29, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. and Monday, January 30 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.at Moss Funeral Home in Breese. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 30, at St. Dominic Church in Breese at 10:00 am., with Fr. Pat Peter presiding, Fr. Roger Karban, homilist, and Deacons Richard Bagby, Charles Litteken, and Linus Klostermann.

Interment will follow at St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese, Illinois. Memorials may be made to St. Dominic Church, St. Jude Hospital for Children, or to Forward: The Campaign for McKendree University.
