Russell L. “Russ” Rendleman, age 87, of Trenton, entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

He was born August 31, 1931 in Carbondale, a son of the late John and Catherine, nee Nolte, Rendleman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Rex Rendleman; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gordon and Lena, nee DeLay, Vogel.

Surviving are his wife, Melba, nee Vogel, Rendleman of Trenton, whom he married March 22, 1957 at First Baptist Church in Carlyle; daughters, Shelba (Don) Taylor of Oro Valley, AZ and Mitzi (Mike) Johnson of Salem, MO; grandchildren, Harrison (fiancé Suzanne Jasmine) Taylor, Hayden (Jessica) Taylor, Nick (Sarah) Johnson, and Megan Johnson; brother, Reve (Marie) Rendleman of Arnold, MO; and sisters-in-law, Leota Rendleman of Carthage and Virginia Rendleman of Highland.

An Army veteran, Russ graduated from SIU-Carbondale before designing and maintaining Illinois roads for 37 years with IDOT as a professional engineer.  Russ’s drive and entrepreneurial spirit led him to several more careers that included local real estate development, financial investing, and owning and operating the Western Sizzlin Steakhouse in Fairview Heights.  Russ was dedicated to his community, his garden, and buying all the cards in Liverpool Rummy. His BBQ pork steaks were second only to his love for his wife and family.

Russ was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Highland and also attended West Gate Baptist Church in Trenton.
