Leonard O. "Len" Gebke, 49, of Bartelso died Monday, February 17, 2003 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville

He was born May 17, 1953 in Breese to Arnold J. and Irene (Kapp) Gebke; they survive in Bartelso

He married Karen Timmermann on April 8, 1978 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese; she survives in Breese

Also surviving is a son Scott (Friend Amanda Davenport) Gebke of Breese and a daughter Dana (Friend Adam Scott) Gebke of Breese

Brothers Arnold (Kelly) Gebke of Bartelso, Marvin "Ziff" (Kim) Gebke of Albers, and Tim (Kristy) Gebke of Bartelso

Sisters Jane (Dave) Beckmann of Carlyle, Pat (Randy) Kruep of Bartelso, and Judy (Gerard "Rex") Schomaker of Albers

Len was a carpenter with DJ Beckmann Construction of Carlyle and a former employee of Dulle Construction in Albers

He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso, Former assistant Fire Chief and First Responder with the Santa Fe Fire District, Bartelso Knights of Columbus Council 4745 where he served as the Deputy Grand Knight and the assistant coach of the Softball team that captured the State title and placed in many of the national tournaments, Carpenter’s Local 480-Belleville, Former President of Mater Dei Fathers and Friends, Bartelso JC’s where he held all offices, former Softball player with Burke’s Softball team in Bartelso, and a Coach and Player with Bartelso Clinton County Baseball League

He was an avid sports fan, coaching his children during little league and later following them in all of their sporting activities

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at 2 PM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso with Fr. Henry Fischer officiating. Interment in St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 18, 2003 from 4 to 9 PM and again on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 from 10 AM to 1:30 PM at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown

Memorials can be made to his children’s educational fund and will be received at the funeral home
