He was born October 14, 1927 in Breese to Aloysius and Regina (Timmermann)
Hagen: they preceded him in death
Also preceded in death by a brother Aloys Hagen, a sister Viola
Huelsmann, granddaughters Alexis Russell and Rebecca Hagen,
brothers-in-law Cyril Foppe, Carl Ruess, Leo Huelsmann and Joseph
Detmer
He married Viola Gebhart October 14, 1952 at St. Francis Church
in Aviston and she survives in Breese
Also surviving are sons Virgil A. (Eileen) Hagen Jr., David
(Paula) Hagen, both of Breese, Marvin (Barb) Hagen of Beckemeyer and
currently stationed in Iraq
Daughters Mary (James) Russell of Mattoon, Kathy (Phillip) Thole
of Greenville
3 sisters Dolores Foppe and Bernadette Detmer both of Trenton,
Aurelia Hagen of Breese
10 grandchildren Adrian (Michelle) Hagen, Christine (Kristopher)
Deien, Allen (friend Tommy Evans), Erin (friend Cory Dust) Dana and
Zachary Hagen, Brianna Russell, Kevin and Michelle Thole, Michael
(Friend Vicky) Hagen
1 great grandson Andrew Hagen
He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Virgil retired from farming and from the operation of Prairieland
TV and Appliances. He enjoyed listening to polka music, playing his
accordion, doing hand woodworking projects and eating ice cream
custard
Member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese, Life member of
Trenton VFW post 7983 and past commander, Bartelso American Legion
Post 976, Bartelso Catholic War Veterans Post 1780 and past member
and commander of the Breese American Legion Post 252
Funeral mass Thursday July 3, 2003 at 10 am at St. Augustine
Catholic church in Breese with Fr. Chuck Tuttle officiating
Interment St. Dominic – St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese
Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 2 from 4 to 9 Pm and on
Thursday July 3 from 8 to 9:45 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese
Trenton VFW will hold services Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the
funeral home
Memorials can be made to St. Augustine Church, Caring First
nursing Home or to the donor’s Choice and will be received at the
funeral home.
