Leonard F. Schrage, 92, of Highland,
formerly of Breese, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at St. Joseph
Hospital in Highland
He was born September 18, 1912 in
St. Rose to Joseph Sr. and Anna (Hoff) Schrage; they preceded him in
death
He married Clara Ratermann on
October 5, 1937 at St. Francis Church in Aviston; she preceded him
in death on November 22, 2003
Also preceded in death by sisters,
Bernadine Schumacher, Anna Wilke, and Sr. Jeanette Schrage ASC; and
brothers August, Otto, Joseph Jr., and Robert Schrage
Surviving are sons Dale (Donna)
Schrage of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Kenneth (Marguerite) Schrage of
Leawood, Kansas
Sisters Regina Klostermann of
Carlyle, Dorothy Maloney of St. Charles, MO, and Hedwig “Hattie”
Welling of Highland
Leonard and Clara made their first home together above a furniture
store on the public square in Highland and later moved to an address
on Lemon Street. Leonard worked at the Wicks Organ Company of
Highland for several years in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. He
and Clara later settled in E. St. Louis where they lived while
Leonard worked as a machinist and as a final products inspector in
the quality control department of Alco Controls, a division of
Emerson Electric in St. Louis. Leonard retired in 1975 from Alco
Controls, and soon after moved to Breese where they resided for many
years before returning to Highland where they shared an apartment at
Highland Home.
He was a member of St. Paul Church
in Highland, a former member of St. Augustine Church in Breese, a life member of the Breese
Knights of Columbus Council 2869 joining in 1935, Catholic Fraternal
Life since 1936, and International Association of Machinists and
Aerospace Workers, Lodge 353, Belleville
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, July
9, 2005 at 10 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Fr.
Charles Tuttle officiating. Interment will follow in St.
Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese
Visitation will be Friday, July 8,
2005 from 4 to 9 PM and again on Saturday, July 9, 2005 from 8-9:45
AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
Breese Knights of Columbus will pray
the rosary at 7:30 PM Friday Evening at the Funeral home
Memorials can be made to Mater Dei
High School and will be received at the funeral home
