Timpe, 94, of Trenton died Friday, September 19, 2003 at St. Joseph
Hospital in Highland
She was born July 5, 1909 in New Baden to Charles and Elizabeth (Singler)
Harpstrite: they preceded her in death
She married Ralph Timpe May 5, 1934 at First United Methodist
Church in Trenton and he preceded her in death February 4, 1976
Also preceded in death by brothers Walter and Ben Harpstrite,
sisters, Alvina Hirstein, Irene Emig and Elizabeth Harpstrite,
nieces Thelma Williams and Anita Browy, nephews Leslie D. Hirstein
and Walter Harpstrite, Jr...
Surviving are Nieces and Nephews Ruth Schaefer of Belleville,
Wilma Pheiffer of Dallas TX, Ben C. (Ellie) Harpstrite of New Baden,
Harold Hirstein of Mascoutah, and Howard D. Harpstrite of Trenton
Also, numerous great nieces and nephews
Elvera attended McKendree College, received her bachelors degree
from Shurtleff College East Alton and received her master’s degree
from Washington University, St. Louis. She taught at Sandoval, then
Centennial, Hickory Log, White and Round Prairie country schools in
Jersey County. She also taught at Monticello private college for
girls, Dorsey Country School, grades schools in Carpenter, Hammel
and Moro. She retired from teaching in 1971.
She was very involved in the First United Methodist Church
Trenton, teaching Sunday School Heart and Will Class and afternoon
bible studies. She was president of the Methodist Women, lay
delegate for the Southern Illinois Conference
Funeral services will be held Monday Sept 22 2003 at 2 Pm at the
First United Methodist Church Trenton with Rev. Debra Melzer
officiating. Friends may call at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton
Sunday from 4 to 8 PM. Monday the visitation will be held at the
First United Methodist Church from 12 noon until the time of
services. Interment will follow in Trenton Cemetery. Memorials can
be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American heart
Association and will received at the funeral home.
