Rev. Melvin B. Haas 75 of Belleville died Thursday
September 11, 2003 at Rosewood Care Center in Swansea
He was born February 5, 1928 in Belleville, to Peter and Agnes
(Bauer) Haas: they preceded him in death
Also preceded in death by a step brother Kenny Wiesen,
step-sisters Dorothy Schneider, Joan Reime, and a brother-in-law
Joseph Clark
Surviving are brothers LeRoy (Bea) Haas of Belleville and Fr.
Ralph Haas of Belleville
A sister Virginia Clark of Plainfield, IL
Step-sister Patricia Kane of Belleville
9 nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews
Fr. Haas was ordained on May 5, 1954 at St. Peters Cathedral in
Belleville, He served the following parishes during his priesthood,
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston, St. Peters
Cathedral, Belleville where he was secretary to Bishop Zuroweste and
Administrator of the former Cathedral High School, St. Anthony’s
Catholic Church in Lively Grove, St. Francis Catholic Church in
Carbondale, St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, St. Augustine
Catholic Church in Breese where he retired in 1998. After his
retirement he moved to Glendale California where he assisted part
time at the Holy Family Parish
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday September 15, 2003 at 11:00
am at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Ralph Haas
officiating. Interment in St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery
Reception of the body will take place at 3:00 PM on Sunday
September 14 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese; visitation
will follow until 9 PM
AND on Monday September 15 from 8 to 10:45 am at the church.
Memorials can be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church, Breese;
Diocesan Clergy Aid or Masses will be received at the Church or
through the Moss Funeral Home in Breese who is handling the
arrangements
