Bernard
H. “Smiley” Haake, Jr., 78, of Germantown, died Friday, November 17,
2006 at his residence.
Mr.
Haake was born February 12, 1928 in Germantown to Bernard and
Elizabeth (Gross) Haake, Sr.; they preceded him in death.
Also
preceded in death by a sister in infancy, Cecilia Haake, a
sister-in-law, Agatha Haake, and brothers-in-law, Wilson Wuebbels
and Edward Gramann.
He
married Mary Frances Gramann on May 22, 1954
at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso; she survives in
Germantown.
Also
surviving are his children, Linda (Bernie) Barth of Germantown,
Janice (Robert) Pilkington of Belleville, Bill (Beverly) Haake of
Maryville, and Lisa (Gregory) Shea of Saline, Michigan.

Grandchildren, Brian and Sarah Barth, and Matthew and Michael
Haake.
A
Brother, Harman P. Haake of Seguin, Texas and sisters, Selma
Wuebbels of Carlyle, Marilyn (Ralph) Holtmann of Germantown, and
Lorraine (Lavern) Hemann of Germantown.
A
sister-in-law, Lucille Gramann of Breese.
Smiley
retired from Scott Air Force Base as a Photo lithographer after 33
years, and then drove a bus for Community Link in Breese and retired
after 17 years. He also played in the Boomkessel Band.
He was
a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Choir, Germantown
American Legion Post 325, Charter member of the Kernel Nut Club,
Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869, past member of the
Germantown School Board and Germantown Community Development.
Funeral
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, November 20, 2006 at 11:00
AM at St. Boniface Catholic
Church in Germantown with Fr.
Stephen Humphrey officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface
Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 19, 2006 from 4:00-9:00 PM and
again on Monday, November 20, 2006 from 8:00-10:45 AM at the Moss
Funeral Home in Germantown.
Memorials can be made to VNA-TIP Hospice or to St. Boniface Church
and will be received at the funeral home.
The
Germantown American Legion will hold services at 7:00 PM and the
Breese Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary at 7:30 PM Sunday
evening at the funeral home.
