Raymond Hilmes, 82, of Breese and formerly of Belleville, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. 

Mr. Hilmes was born May 13, 1927 in Germantown to Aloys and Frances (Kniepmann) Hilmes; they preceded him in death. 

He married Anita Weisenfeld in 1955 at St. Augustine Church in Breese; she preceded him in death in 1973. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Korte and a brother-in-law, Fred Korte. 

Survivors include a brother, Eugene (Marita) Hilmes of Germantown, brothers-in-law, Lou “Bud” (MaryAnn) Weisenfeld and Dave (Connie) Weisenfeld all of Breese and nieces and nephews. 

Raymond owned and operated Ray’s Barber Shop in Belleville for over 45 years before making his home at Villa St. James in Breese. 

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Woodcarver’s Association of Belleville and was an avid woodcarver for over 40 years.  Many of his carvings were on display and sold at many woodcarving shows throughout the area. 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese. 

Friends may call from 9:00-11:00 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown. 

Memorials can be made to VNA Tip Hospice or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the church or through Moss Funeral Home who is in charge of the arrangements.
