Julian O. “Koentzie” Koentz, 89, of Trenton, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese 

Mr. Koentz was born July 18, 1918 in Trenton to Julius and Mary (Heldorfer) Koentz; they preceded him in death. 

He married Mildred Wendel on November 28, 1940 at the St. Louis Cathedral; she preceded him in death on December 30, 2000

Also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Koentz; twin sons, John and Joseph Koentz; and a granddaughter Leah Zarchan. 

Surviving are his children, Mary Margaret (Leonard) Zarchan of Wichita, KS, Robert Koentz of Trenton, Dr. William (Lesley) Koentz, DMD of New Baden, and Richard (June) Koentz of Trenton. 

13 Grandchildren, Aaron (Kristen) Zarchan, Evan (Karole Bradford) Zarchan, Dr. Adam (Meghan) Zarchan, Alex (Katie) Zarchan, Jason Koentz, Travis Koentz, Jessie Davis, Grant (Amanda) Koentz, Joel Koentz, Mathew Koentz, Morgan Koentz, Christopher Koentz, Nathan Koentz, and Nicole Koentz. 

6 Great-Grandchildren-Brianna, Tyler, Haley, Jackson, Leah, Kyle. 

Koentzie retired as a plumber from Brefeld Gas, Plumbing, and Heating in Trenton. He was 10th generation of William Koentz the First of Holland. 

He was a member of St. Mary Church, Laborers Local 670-O’Fallon, Plumber Local-Belleville, Charter Member of VFW Post 7983, Trenton, Aviston American Legion Post 1239, Retired Volunteer Fire Fighter and Former Assistant Chief of the Trenton Fire Department, and was an Army Veteran of WWII where he earned a Bronze Star with the 378 Service Battalion 95th Infantry Division. 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Church in Trenton with Fr. James Dougherty officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 4:00-9:00 PM and again on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 8:00-9:45 AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton. 

Memorials can be made to Trenton Volunteer Fire Department or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.
