Edmund “Ed” A. Korte, 81, of Breese,
died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Breese Nursing Home.
He was born November 15, 1928, in
Damiansville, the son of Bernard Henry Korte and Mary (Toennies)
Korte. He married Agnes Marie Timmermann on May 14, 1952 at St.
Francis Church in Aviston.
Ed was a U.S. Army veteran, having
served from 1953 to 1955, and attained the rank of corporal. Before
his retirement in 1991, he was a construction worker for Korte
Construction Company in Highland.
Ed was a member of St. Dominic’s
Parish and St. Joseph’s Men’s Sodality, Laborers Local 680, Breese
American Legion Post 252, Breese Knights of Columbus #2869, and St.
Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary.
He is survived by his wife, a son,
Daniel G. (Laurie) Korte of St. Louis; a granddaughter, Taylor Korte
of St. Louis; three brothers, Jerome (Clara) Korte of Collinsville,
Raymond (Carol Jean) Korte of Swansea, and Cyril “Pete” (Jane) Korte
of Highland; three sisters, Alvina Luitjohan of Albers, Sr. Florence
Korte, ASC of Ruma, and Alice Luitjohan of Albers; sisters-in-law,
Veronica Korte of St. Rose and Josephine Timmermann of Aviston; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, two daughters, Karen Ann Korte and Mary Korte; a son,
Joseph Korte; two sisters, Marie Rolves and Sr. Judith Korte, ASC;
three brothers, Ferdinand Korte, Joseph Korte and George Korte; and
brothers-in-law, Louis Rolves, Francis Luitjohan, and John Luitjohan.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial
will be Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 10:00 AM
at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Ben Stern
officiating. Interment will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine
Cemetery, Breese.
Visitation will be held Tuesday,
January 5, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, January 6,
2010 from 8:00-9:45 AM at the
Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
Memorials are suggested to St.
Dominic Church, St. Joseph Hospital Lights for Scholarship, or to
Mater Dei High School.
The Breese American Legion will hold
services at 7:00 PM and the Breese Knights of Columbus will pray the
rosary at 7:30 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. |
