Anton G.  “Tony” Sterkis, 74, of Germantown, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. 

Tony was born July 14, 1935 in Carlyle to Joseph and Margaret (Schulte) Sterkis; they preceded him in death. 

Also preceded in death by brothers, John, Mike and J.D. Sterkis; a sister, Marie Lee; father-in-law and mother-in- law, Herman and Christine (Wehlage) Schniers; and a  brother-in-law, Hank Dulle. 

He married Ruth Schniers June 21, 1956 at St. Boniface Church in Germantown and she survives in Germantown. 

Also surviving are his children Gary (Tina) Sterkis of Germantown, Diane (Jim) Hegger of Aviston, and Lisa (Ron) Timmermann of Germantown; 7 grandchildren, Kim (Jerry) Rickhoff, Karl (Shannon) Sterkis, Karyn Sterkis, Christy (Steve) Katzfey, Keith Hegger, Jake Timmermann and Jessie Timmermann; great grandchildren Jack Sterkis, Mia Rickhoff, Kaylyn Sterkis and Baby Katzfey; a brother, Joseph Sterkis of Jamestown; sisters, Ursla Sterkis of Raytown, MO and Mary Grisby of Quincy, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marie Dulle of Albers, Paul (Margie) Schniers of Breese, Herman Schniers of Germantown, Stan (Diane) Schniers of Germantown, Don (Judy) Schniers of Breese, Debbie (Fred) Kruger of Germantown. 

Tony was retired from PTL Truck Lines in MO and a veteran of the US Navy. 

Member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown American Legion Post 325 in Germantown, Teamsters Local 50 in Illinois and Teamsters Local 600 in Missouri. 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 11:30 AM at St. Boniface Catholic Church in
Germantown with Fr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby officiating. Interment will follow in  St. Boniface Cemetery. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 19 from 4 to 9 PM and Wednesday, January 20 from 9 to 11:15 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown. 

Memorials can be made to Clinton County Relay for life and will be received at the funeral home. 

American Legion will hold services at Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
