Melvin E. “Mel” Turner Jr. 80 of Trenton died Sunday September 20, 2009 at his residence 

He was born July 7, 1929 in Posey, IL to Melvin F. Tuner Sr. and Glenola (Scherer) Turner; they preceded him in death 

Also preceded in death by a sister Billye Welch, father and mother in law; Otto and Velma Daniels, brothers-in-law Earl Welch, Robert Daniels, sister-in-law Evelyn Daniels 

He married Jo Ann Daniels November 12, 1955 at First United Methodist Church in Trenton and she survives in Trenton 

Also surviving are sons Mark (Nancy) Turner, Mike (Carolyn) Turner all of Trenton 

4 grandchildren Ryan, Courtney, Ross and Blair Turner 

2 nieces Julie and Jamie 

Mel was a retired cement finisher with Local 90 of Troy. US Korean Army veteran with 82 airborne and the 187 airborne and US Air Force reservist. He enjoyed the ocean, motorcycles, playing guitar, boating, line dancing, flying and above all being with his grandchildren 

Member of First United Methodist church in Trenton, Masonic Lodge 109, Trenton, Scottish Rites, Ainad Shrine, Illinois Pilot Association, Cement Local 90 of Troy and Health and welfare trustee, Rakkasan 187 National Association, Rakkasan Ohio Buckeye Chapter, Trenton VFW Post 7983, first charter member and first charter president of Trenton Jaycee’s and chairman of the peanut drop. 

Funeral services Thursday September 24, 2009 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Trenton with Rev. Debbie Melzer and Rev. Tom Rankin officiating. Interment Trenton Cemetery 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 23 from 4 to 8 PM and Thursday September 24 from 9 to 10:45 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton 

Memorials can be made to Shriners Hospital, Hospice of Southern Illinois, and First United Methodist Church and will be received at the funeral home  

Trenton VFW will hold services on Wednesday September 23 at 7:30 PM at the funeral home
