  • Full Obituary

Duane C. Richter, age 62, of Breese, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born November 3, 1962, in Breese, a son of the late Casper and Dorothy (nee Loepker) Richter.

Duane married Melissa Richter (nee Reinhardt) on September 28, 1985, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese and she survives in Breese. In addition to his wife, Duane is survived by his sons, Jason (Danielle) Richter of Breese, Kyle Richter of Breese, and Cody (fiancée, Mariah Markus) Richter of Germantown; grandchildren, Wyatt, Lane, Brody, Weston, Lux, and Leighton Richter and Beckett and Maddox Richter; siblings, Tom (Karen) Richter of Breese, Randy (Tracy) Richter of Breese, and Kathleen (Tim) Hodges of New Baden; god-mother, Edna Woltering of Carlyle; mother-in-law, Pat Reinhardt (nee Vollmer) of Albers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Randy (Jan) Reinhardt, Sue (Jim) Norrenberns, Sharon (Ed) Wuebbels, Joanie Bradford, Joe (Jennifer) Reinhardt, all of Albers, and Pam (Tom) O’Brien of Trenton; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and great friends.

In addition to his parents, Duane was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Richter; father-in-law, Dale Reinhardt; and brother-in-law, Rich Bradford.

From a young age, Duane was no stranger to hard work. He grew up working and managing the family farm, later becoming a Heavy Equipment Operator for Operating Engineers Local 520. In 2000, he founded Richter Yard & Dirt Work, proudly building the business as its original owner.

Duane was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese. He was also active in the community, belonging to the Breese Sons of the American Legion Squadron 252 and the Aviston Gun Club.

Beyond work, Duane found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved hunting and fishing, taking side-by-side rides, traveling, and making trips to the Lake of the Ozarks. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family and friends and was very proud of his three sons.
