Janet M. Esmon, age 92, of Breese, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Evercare in Breese. She was born on May 27, 1934, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late William and Jeanette (nee Neudecker) Dooley.
On April 23, 1955, Janet married Julius H. Esmon in East St. Louis, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 2013.
Janet is survived by her son, Jay (Tracy) Esmon of Alhambra; daughter-in-law, Karen Esmon of Venedy, IL; grandchildren, Jason (Maggie) Esmon of Edwardsville and Travis Esmon of Highland; great grandchildren, Caius Esmon, Jake Esmon and Eloise Esmon; and nephews, James (Maria) Hamilton and Allen Hamilton.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her son, William “Bill” Esmon; granddaughter, Colleen Lockhart and sister & brother-in-law, Jane and Bob Hamilton.
Janet was a graduate of Lansdowne High School in East St. Louis. She brought a strong work ethic to her long career as an Assembler at Basler Electric and was also a committed union member. Janet filled her time with things that brought life and beauty to the world. She possessed a remarkable talent for sewing and took great pride in tending to her garden. Her home was always filled with the music she loved playing on the organ and the joyful companionship of her dogs. Above all, Janet’s greatest happiness came from spending quality time with her family, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m., at Moss Funeral Home in Highland. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. William Kapp presiding. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be HSHS St. Joseph Hospital (Highland) or HACSM (Highland Food Pantry) and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 1501 9th St., Highland, IL 62249, who is serving the family.
