John E. Ketterer, age 76, of Beaver Prairie, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at his home. He was born April 27, 1950, in Breese, a son of the late Cletus and Elizabeth (nee Schumacher) Ketterer.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Ketterer.

John is survived by his brother, Daniel Ketterer of Beaver Prairie, along with many friends, neighbors, and fellow parishioners.

John was a man deeply rooted in faith, family, and the farming community he loved. Raised on the family farm in Beaver Prairie, he carried a strong work ethic and quiet dedication throughout his life, continuing to help with farming whenever he could.

John devoted many years of service to the Centralia Correctional Center, first working as a guard and later as a counselor.

His faith was an important part of his life. John was a devoted member of St. Felicitas Catholic Church, where he faithfully served on the finance council and generously volunteered his time caring for the parish and helping with countless tasks around the church. He was also a proud member of Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869.

Outside of work and church, John enjoyed spending time on the golf course and cheering on his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. He valued simple pleasures, meaningful friendships, and the close-knit community of Beaver Prairie.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Felicitas Catholic Church in Beaver Prairie with Fr. Edward Schaefer presiding. Interment will follow at St. Felicitas Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at St. Felicitas Catholic Church in Beaver Prairie.

In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Felicitas Parish or Mater Dei Catholic High School and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th Street, Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
