- Full Obituary
Norma Jean Ossmann, age 80, of Trenton, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, at Aviston Countryside Manor. She was born January 9, 1946, in Scott County, Illinois, a daughter of the late James and Vida (nee Day) Jefferson.
Norma married Frederic Ossmann on June 11, 1966, in Tucson, Arizona, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1985.
In addition to her parents and husband, Norma was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Shirley Mae (nee Brick) Ossmann.
Norma is survived by her children, Tressa (James) Caperton of St. Jacob and Derrick (Monica) Ossmann of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Brooke (fiancé, Tristen Hancock) Caperton, Jordan Ossmann, and Morgan Ossmann; bonus grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew Schaeffer; multiple brothers and sisters; and her best friend, Ann Schmitt of Trenton.
Norma was raised in the Baptist faith and will be remembered most for the love and care she shared so freely with others. For forty-two years, she welcomed children into her home through Norma's Day Care, becoming a trusted caregiver and second mother to generations of Trenton families. She had a special gift for nurturing children, offering comfort, encouragement, and a safe place where they always felt loved. Many who passed through her doors never forgot the kindness, patience, and genuine affection she showed them throughout the years.
A very giving person by nature, Norma quietly supported several charitable organizations throughout her life, especially those dedicated to helping children. She found joy in life's simple pleasures and treasured the friendships she made along the way. Friday nights often found her bowling with the Hank's Bowl Women's League, while quieter moments were spent tending to her flower gardens, crocheting, and knitting.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Trenton Cemetery in Trenton with Pastor Bob Marsh officiating.
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be received at the graveside service or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main St., Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
