    William C. “Bill” DeShasier, US Navy BT1 (Ret.), age 94, of Breese, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Cedarhurst Senior Living Center in Breese. He was born September 8, 1929, in White Hall, a son of the late Charles and Viola Mae, nee Cox, DeShasier.

     

    Bill married Doris DeShasier, nee Bushnell, on February 10, 1951, in Jacksonville, FL and she survives in Breese. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, Don (Kathie) DeShasier of Oak Ridge, TN, Joe DeShasier of Las Vegas, NV, Lavonne (Stanley) Albers of Beckemeyer, and Teresa (Steve) Mullins of Germantown; grandchildren, Dannielle DeShasier, Donald DeShasier, Jr., Crystal Wharton, Rachele (Roy) Grayling, Adam (special friend, Jackie Knight) Albers, Wendi Jacobson, and Matt Mullins; great-grandchildren, Hayden Danz, Donald DeShasier III, Christopher and Destiny Clark, and Colton and Chloe Grayling; one great-great-grandson; brother, Danny DeShasier of Alton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     

    In addition to Bill’s parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Wharton; granddaughter, Sara Clark; and siblings, Edna Mae (Paul) Rochester, Charles Edward DeShasier, Nina Louise DeShasier, Richard Eugene DeShasier, Betty Ann (Kenny) Savage, Ruth Darlene (Bob) McAdams, Linda Sue Zidick, Patsy June (Lee) Bushnell, John Lee DeShasier, Harriett Williams, Louis Ray DeShasier, Thomas DeShasier; and siblings in infancy, Shirley Jo, Michael, and Donald DeShasier.

     

    Bill lived a long and honorable life, marked by his service to his country and his dedication to his family. He proudly served in the United States Navy, retiring after a distinguished career. After his service, Bill worked as a custodian at White Hall grade school and high school, and later found a new role at Taphorn Orchard in Beckemeyer, where his strong work ethic shone through. Bill was known for his love of traveling, his skill in stitching canvases, his unwavering support for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, following them in all their endeavors, and always working various odd jobs in White Hall.

     

    Bill was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Breese and a former member of White Hall Baptist Church. His memberships also included the Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227 and Carlyle V.F.W. Post 3523.

     

    Funeral Service will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at Moss Funeral Home in Breese with Rev. Greg Harding officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Williams-Edwards Cemetery in Barrow, IL.

     

    Visitation will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to Williams-Edwards Cemetery or St. John UCC in Breese and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
