Leo E. Lammers, age 74, of Highland, and formerly of Trenton and Breese, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on January 24, 1949, in Breese, the son of the late Leo H. and Henrietta, nee Huene, Lammers.

In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Schmeink; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Lucille, nee Buehne, Thole; sister-in-law, Marian Korte; brother-in-law, Richard Thole; and a nephew, Kurt Lammers.

Leo is survived by his beloved wife, Barb, nee Thole, Lammers, whom he married on February 24, 1971, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland; his devoted children, Nathan (Jennifer) Lammers, Glennon Lammers, Emily (Chad) Tobin, and Zachary (Jennifer) Lammers; cherished grandchildren, Sydney and Carter Lammers, Gabrielle, Audrey, and Blake Lammers, Layla, Jersey, and Emmitt Tobin, and Parker and Cason Lammers; siblings, Kenny (Margie) Lammers and Mary (Jim) Richter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Leo Schmeink, Julie (Randy) Ribbing, Louise (Kevin) Hemann, and Tom Korte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leo retired from General Motors in 1998 and later retired from Anderson Hospital in Maryville in 2022. He was a former Little League baseball and softball coach, as well as a summer league basketball coach and referee for grade school and high school basketball. Beyond his professional life, Leo found joy in golfing, yardwork, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame and University of Illinois sporting events. However, above all, he cherished attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.

Leo was a dedicated member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Men’s Sodality in Breese, where he served as an usher. He was also associated with the United Auto Workers Local 2250 in Wentzville, MO, and was a member of the Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869, where he proudly held the title of past Grand Knight and District Deputy, and the 4th Degree Highland Assembly 231.  Additionally, Leo played a crucial role in forming the 4th Degree Santa Maria Assembly 1518 in Marion County where he served as the Faithful Navigator. He was a former member of the 4th Degree Bishop Althoff Assembly 193 and past president of the Belleville Diocese K of C Chapter. Leo received numerous awards and recognitions from the Knights of Columbus, including the Rising Star Award, Star Council Award, Masters Medallion and State Medallion Recipient, and Southern Friendship Honoree. His dedication to helping others extended to volunteering as an Illinois Ambassador for Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital Fund Raising.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter and Fr. Chuck Tuttle concelebrating. Private interment will take place at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese at a later date.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

The Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869 will hold services at 6:45 p.m. on Friday evening followed by the 4th Degree Highland Assembly 231 Chalice Service at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Dominic Catholic Church, Mater Dei Catholic High School, All Saints Academy, or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
