    Robert G. "Bob" Athmer, age 70, of Aviston, and formerly of Albers, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  He was born February 26, 1953 in Breese, a son of the late Joseph and Clara, nee Thein, Athmer.

     

    Bob is survived by his wife, Linda Athmer, nee Kalmer, of Aviston, whom he married July 2, 1976 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville; children, Jeremy (fiancée, Christina Scott) Athmer of Aviston and Kelly (Eric) Kraeger of Breese; grandchildren, Keegan and Lana Kraeger; brothers, Joe Athmer of Belleville, Tom (special friend, Shirley) Athmer of Albers, and Bernie (Lynn) Athmer of Albers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ron “Roo” Reed of Ashley, Leonard Beer of Breese, Marilyn Beckmann of Highland, Garry (Sharon) Kalmer of Damiansville, Bev (Terry) Gebke of Bartelso, Mary Kay (Ron) Langenhorst of Germantown, Karen (Mike) Crist of Bartelso, Mike Kalmer of Damiansville, and Kevin (Ann) Kalmer of Damiansville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

     

    Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy P. “Tim” Athmer; sisters, Louise Reed and Mary Beer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Dorothy, nee Rakers, Kalmer; and brothers-in-law, Ken Kalmer, Jerry Beckmann, and Dan Seelhoefer.

     

    Bob dedicated many years to Community Link, where he worked in maintenance. A man of faith, he was a proud member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston. Additionally, he was a member of the Sons of the Avison American Legion Squadron 1239 and the Aviston Gun Club.

     

    An avid outdoorsman, Bob found joy in hunting, camping, boating, side by side riding, and golfing. In his younger years, he pursued a passion for woodworking, leaving behind beautiful creations. Throughout the years, Bob was renowned for his delicious homemade wine. However, his greatest joy was being a family man, and he especially cherished his time with his grandchildren.

     

    Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston with Fr. Daniel Friedman presiding.  Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston.

     

    Visitation will be Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and again Friday, February 9, 2024 from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

     

    Memorials in honor of Bob may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
