    Victor Anthony Jansen, age 87, of Breese, Illinois, and formerly of Carlyle, Illinois, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024, at Aviston Countryside Manor surrounded by his family.

     

    He was born June 13, 1937, in Breese, Illinois, a son of the late Henry and Theresa (nee Koerkenmeier) Jansen. Victor is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Anna "Babe" Jansen (nee Ribbing) whom he married on April 21, 1959, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston, Illinois.  Also surviving are his children, Linda (Ron) Hellmann of Bartelso, Illinois, Denise (Kim) Fietsam of New Athens, Illinois, Kurt Jansen of Okeechobee, Florida, Karen (Jeff) West of Jacksonville, Florida, and Keith (Anne) Jansen of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Susan Jansen of St. Louis, Missouri, Elvira "Toots" Tebbe of St. Rose, Illinois, and Dan (Martha) Ribbing of Aviston, Illinois.

     

    Vic was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren including: Monica (Jerry) Oakley; Thomas (Kelly) Hellmann and Milo, Cora and Leo; Molly (Scott) Douglass and Baby Douglass arriving in January 2025; Brian (Sara) Fietsam and Ellie, Owen and Isla; Renee Fietsam; Andrew (Mallory) Jansen and Emma and Everett; Matthew (Emily) Jansen and Wyatt, Jack and Eli; Daniel (Thomas) Jansen; Sarah (Fillipe) Soto and Isabella; Haley Groshan; Shane Jansen; and Levi (Abby) Jansen.

     

    Vic was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Catherine Jansen (nee Connely); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vincent and Marie (nee Venhaus) Ribbing; his siblings and their spouses, Henrietta (Alphonse) Jansen, Dolores (Norbert) Ripperda, Ralph (Dolores) Jansen, Robert (Theresa) Jansen, Alice (Kris) Kohrs, Eileen (Louie) Detmer, Charlie (Gloria) Jansen, Donald Jansen, Jim (Emma) Jansen, David (Marilyn) Jansen; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, James Ribbing, Marilyn Ribbing, Janet (Harold) Willmann, and James Tebbe.

     

    Vic served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1963.  He worked for the City of Breese, Illinois in his early career and later retired from Kaskaskia Water District in New Athens, Illinois after 24 years.  After his retirement he continued his career working for several small businesses. Vic was a member of St. Augustine Parish in Breese, Illinois.  For many years he was also a member of St. Mary Parish in Carlyle, Illinois and St. Agatha Parish in New Athens, Illinois.

     

    Vic was an active member of the New Athens Lion's Club, Knight of Columbus Council 3789 in New Athens, and former volunteer firefighter in Breese, Illinois in the 1970s. Vic and Ruth spent 52 years camping and listening to Bluegrass music.  He also spent time rehabbing old houses and spent many hours in his garage creating furniture for his family.

     

    Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Chuck Tuttle presiding and Deacon Jay Fowler assisting. Interment will follow at St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.

     

    Visitation will be Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 8:30 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Alzheimer’s Association, or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
