    Paul J. Meyer, age 91, of Trenton, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024, at his home. He was born August 15, 1932, in Bartelso, a son of the late Joseph and Mary, nee Wessel, Meyer.

     

    In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice Meyer (nee Dierkes), whom he married April 17, 1956, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown and who died February 2, 1994; brother, Robert Meyer; longtime companion, Linda Kues; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Eugenia, nee Winter, Dierkes; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cyril “Mickey” Becker, Jerry Lampe, Del Meyer, Clarence (Eugenia) Dierkes, Paul (Flo) Dierkes, Eugene (Esther) Dierkes, and Frank Dierkes.

     

    Paul is survived by his children, Deb (Mike) Arentsen of Trenton, Don (Marilyn) Meyer of Trenton, Bonnie (Terry “Turbo”) Toennies of Trenton, Connie (Kevin) Weber of Trenton, Bev Meyer of Trenton, Kevin (Jodi) Meyer of Germantown Hills, and Brian “Whitey” Meyer of Highland; grandchildren, Kyle (Rachel) Arentsen, Shawn Arentsen, David (Kari) Meyer, Rob (Krystal) Meyer, Nicole (Matt) Hellmann, Megan Toennies, Grant (special friend, Kayla Garritsen) Weber, Nicholas (fiance, Jef) Meyer, Ryan Meyer, and Katie Meyer; great-grandchildren, Eve and Kaeden Arentsen, Wyatt and Wren Meyer, and Owen and Harris Hellmann; siblings, Leona Becker of Beckemeyer, Laurie Lampe of Germantown, Albert Meyer of Bartelso, Florence Yager of Yerington, NV, Mary Ann (Robert) Prary of Yerington, NV, and Edwin (Carla) Meyer of Bartelso; sister-in-law, Doris Meyer of Quincy, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     

    Paul was a dedicated and respected member of his community. He owned and operated Meyer Concrete and was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Holy Name in Trenton. His involvement extended to the Trenton Knights of Columbus Council 2932, where he served as Past Grand Knight, and the 4th Degree Bishop Althoff Assembly, where he served as past Faithful Navigator. Paul was a longtime member of the Sugar Creek Fire Department, serving for 32 years, including 18 years as chief. He also dedicated 28 years to the Sugar Creek Township Board.

     

    In his free time, Paul enjoyed woodworking, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, playing cards, making summer sausage, and savoring his daily blackberry brandy.

     

    Funeral Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be Monday, August 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Trenton with Fr. George Zieba presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Trenton.

     

    Visitation will be Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. and again Monday, August 19, 2024, from 8:30 – 9:45 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to the Sugar Creek Fire Department or Trenton Tumbleweeds and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main St. Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
