    Shirley Ann Weist, nee Deuel, age 82, of Trenton, entered into rest Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra. She was born July 9, 1942, in Ely, NV, a daughter of the late Virgil and Gladys (nee Forth) Deuel. Shirley married Billy Joe Weist on July 9, 1957, in Sedalia, MO, and he preceded her in death on April 19, 2023.

     

    Shirley is survived by her children, Sharon Schaubert of Edwardsville, Robert (Carol) Weist of New Minden, and Brenda Weist of Keizer, OR; grandchildren, Danielle (Tim) Strothmann and Andrew (Maria) Gerstenecker; great-grandchildren, Thomas Strothmann and Gavin Gerstenecker; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ted Weist of Knox, IN and Cindy Weist of Princeton, IN; along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and extended family members made throughout her life.

     

    In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Tom Gerstenecker, Jr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elwood and Marjorie (nee Kellams) Weist; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eugene Weist, Noble “Pete” (Lois) Weist, Donald “Butch” Weist, Dale Weist, and Karen Weist.

     

    Shirley was a woman of many interests, known for her warm spirit and loyalty to friends. She met Billy while roller skating, and together they enjoyed a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Music was a lifelong passion, particularly the songs of Neil Diamond, and she cherished traveling to many destinations with her family. A devoted St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and admirer of football player, Kurt Warner, she also enjoyed bowling, a beloved activity she shared with Billy and their friends.

     

    Memorial Service will be Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton with Pastor Jeff Chamberlin officiating. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, leaving in procession at 12:30 p.m. from Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

     

    Visitation will be Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main St. Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
