    Judith Ann Markus (nee Kapp), age 80, of Aviston, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. She was born February 8, 1944, a daughter of the late John and Alvera (nee Wiesemeyer) Kapp.

     

    Judith is survived by her loving husband, Donald Markus, of Aviston, whom she married August 17, 1963, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron; sons, Dale Markus of Aviston, Jeff Markus of Cincinnati, OH, Mark (Jackie) Markus of Dublin, OH, and Brian (Tiffany) Markus of Chesterfield, MO; grandchildren, Lindsey (Shane) Floyd, Jacob Markus, and Bryce, Taylor, and Mason Markus; great-grandchildren, Gemma and Harper Floyd; siblings, Sharon Coyne of Kankakee, Duane (Gail) Kapp of Grand Ridge, John Kapp, Jr. of Highland, and Danny Kapp of Highland; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cathy Markus of Aviston, Mary (Alvin) Huels of Carlyle, Dennis (partner, Carol) Markus of Aviston, and Jim (Ruth) Markus of Aviston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     

    In addition to her parents, Judith was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry Kapp, Bobby Kapp, and Lawrence Joseph Kapp in infancy; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hubert and Rose (nee Netemeier) Markus; and brothers-in-law, Dave Coyne and Jerome Markus.

     

    Judith was a dedicated and compassionate woman who valued her faith, family, and community. She served as a secretary at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and later at Central Community High School, where she retired in 2011 after 13 years of service. Judith was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Altar Sodality in Aviston.

     

    Judith found immense joy in traveling, from cruises to family vacations, and treasured every moment spent supporting her grandchildren at their school events, sports, and activities.

     

    Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston with Fr. Van Deeke presiding. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.

     

    Visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese and again Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 8:00 – 9:45 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Aviston.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Francis Parish and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
