Judith Katherine “Judy” Brown, age 79, of Beckemeyer, passed away Friday, February 7, 2025, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. She was born January 8, 1946, in Breese, a daughter of the late Raymond and Virginia (nee Wolters) Strake.
Judy married Norman Brown on September 20, 1969, in Carlyle and he preceded her in death on January 16, 2011. In addition to her parents and husband, Judy was preceded in death by her son, Danny Edward Brown in infancy (11/23/1973-2/28/1974); sisters-in-law, Rosie Strake and Irma Landolt; nieces and nephews, Karen Jansen, Carla Hilmes, Jeff Smith, and Mary Catherine Smith and Terry Strake in infancy; and great-nephews, Cody Sidwell and Trent Smith in infancy.
Judy is survived by her step-daughter, Cindy (Mark) Hazelip; siblings, Elizabeth “Betty” Smith, Dan Strake, and Bucky (Doris) Strake, all of Breese.
Judy worked for many years at Sel-Mor Garment Factory, now known as Miss Elaine Garment Factory in O’Fallon before retiring as a Team Leader from North American Lighting in Salem. A woman of faith, she was a dedicated member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese, where she often volunteered for rummage sales and funeral luncheons. She also gave her time to the House of Manna, always willing to help those in need.
In her free time, Judy enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, solving sudoku and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and baking snickerdoodle cookies. She found great joy in spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Chuck Tuttle presiding. Interment will follow at St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Augustine Parish or St. Anthony Parish and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
