Antonette M. “Nettie” Sudholt, age 83, of Trenton, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon. She was born February 12, 1942, in Highland, a daughter of the late Theodore and Irene (nee Mannhard) Zurliene.
Nettie married Donald Sudholt on September 26, 1962, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Trenton and he survives in Trenton. In addition to her husband, Nettie is survived by her children, Bonnie (Gary) Duncan of Little Rock, AR, Darlene (Chris) Stason of Lake Wylie, SC, and Laura (Don) Forhan of Swansea; son-in-law, Phil Schmitt of Trenton; grandchildren, Clark (Krystal) Schmitt, Abigail (Andrew) Spann, Lauren (Sean) McMahon, Chloe (Luke Starr) Stason, Nicholas (Zoe) Stason, Jacob Stason, Sean Forhan, Colin (Haley) Forhan, and Connor Forhan; great-grandchildren, Crosby and Waylon Schmitt, Trenton Spann, Ada, Stone, and Noble Stason, and Jameson Forhan; siblings, Betty (Jerry) Wesselmann, Sylvia Hoerchler, Nancy (Keith) Patterson, and Dean (Juanita) Zurliene; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Berkmann, Robert (Marilyn) Sudholt, and Pat Sudholt; and nieces and nephews.
Nettie was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Michael Schmitt; sister, Doris Berkmann; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anton and Dora (nee Alberternst) Sudholt; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernest (Lorene) Sudholt, Elvina (John) Gantner, Odelia “Dickie” (Arnold “Dick”) Trame, Floyd (Betty) Sudholt, Tom (Leola) Sudholt, and David (Marion) Sudholt.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Nettie retired as the Department Manager at Jim’s Formal Wear. In her earlier years, she found joy in crafting beautiful wedding cakes. She attended the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ Convent in Donaldson, IN, before graduating from Mater Dei Catholic High School.
Faith was at the heart of Nettie’s life. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Ladies Sodality in Trenton and Clinton County Home Extension, giving generously of her time to serve others, including delivering Meals on Wheels. She found joy in sewing, attending Hanks Bowl coffee club, shopping, playing bingo, baking cookies, and taking cherished trips with her daughters and granddaughters and getting together to bake cookies with them each year. Above all, Nettie loved attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s school and sporting events.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Trenton with Fr. George Zieba presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to the ALS Association and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main St. Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
