    Joseph Gerard Humphrey, age 72, of Breese, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born April 1, 1953, in Breese, a son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (nee Rosen) Humphrey.

     

    Jospeh is survived by his loving wife, Jan Humphrey (nee Woltering) of Breese, whom he married July 15, 1978, in St. Rose; children, Elizabeth (Michael) Hutchinson of Collinsville, Luke Humphrey of Collinsville, and Jess Humphrey of Breese; grandchildren, Violet and Ava Hutchinson; siblings, Steve (Pat) Humphrey of Nashville, John Humphrey of Germantown, Geri (Carl) Huels of Bartelso, Brian (Karen) Humphrey of Manchester, NH, and Monica (Mike) Mensing of Breese; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruth (Tom) Kueper of Carmel, IN, Lena Woltering of Belleville, Edie (Bill) Koch of O’Fallon, and Connie (Rick) Fangmeyer of Breese; and nieces and nephews.

     

    Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary (Larry) Falwell; brother, Kenny Humphrey; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Francis and Irene (nee Schrage) Woltering; and sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eileen (Ernie) Hoffman and Dave Woltering.

     

    Joseph was a skilled licensed plumber and HVAC technician. He began his career with Randant Plumbing in Breese and went on to become the proud owner and operator of Beckemeyer Sales and Service in 1986. He was a faithful member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese and a member of the Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869.

     

    Joseph had a deep love for the outdoors and found great joy in camping and volunteering at Camp Ondessonk, where he shared his skills, spirit, and service with countless others.

     

    Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. James Nall presiding.

     

    Visitation will be Friday, June 6, 2025, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to Camp Ondessonk, Parkinson’s Foundation, or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
