Edward J. “Badge” Dumstorff, age 81, of Breese, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon.

Born January 14, 1944, Badge was the son of the late William and Catherine (née Koopmann) Dumstorff. On May 16, 1967, he married Mary Ellen Toennies, at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. Mary Ellen survives in Breese.

In addition to his wife, Badge is survived by his children, Carla (Ben) Varel of Bartelso, Steve (Debby) Dumstorff of O’Fallon, and Amanda (Jeff) Kaegy of Breese; grandchildren, Candice (Justin) Schulte, Paige (Zach) Luebbers, Molly, Kate, and Grace Dumstorff, and Braden and Parker Kaegy; great-grandchildren, Kallen and Carter Luebbers; siblings, Mary Thoele of Carlyle, Carol “Peck” Foppe of Breese, Jerry “Squirrel” Dumstorff of St. Jacob, Linda “Goof” Jung of Florida, Jim (Patty) Dumstorff of Breese, Lester (Cindy) Dumstorff of Carlyle, Ken “Storff” (Connie) Dumstorff of Aviston, and Kevin “Huck” Dumstorff of Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Adrian (Trudy) Toennies of Trenton, Leonard (Georgia) Toennies of Albers, Donald “Duck” Toennies of Breese, Glen (Kathy) Toennies of Aviston, Jim (Marlene) Toennies of Germantown, Leroy (Mary) Toennies of Bartelso, Pete (Jackie) Toennies of Damiansville, Anthony “Butch” (Nancy) Toennies of Damiansville, Jim Meyer of Breese, and Diane Toennies of Bartelso; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, William “Moose” (Missie) Dumstorff and Kathleen “Puddles” Meyer; father- and mother-in-law, Tony and Clara (née Olliges) Toennies; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Glen Thoele, Paul Toennies, Bernard “Beans” Toennies, Alice Toennies, and Lois Toennies.

Badge retired from Haag Foods in Breese in 2006. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and the Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869. Known for his quick wit, generous spirit, and ability to fix or build just about anything, Badge enjoyed gardening, woodworking, riding motorcycles, and playing the piano—skills he proudly taught himself. Often spotted riding his bicycle around town in his cowboy hat, he was affectionately known as the “Breese Cowboy.” Badge was a regular at Dutchman’s Tavern, where he shared countless laughs and stories with friends. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
