In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Rich was preceded in death by his step-daughters, Ann (fiancé John Whited) Toennies and Christine Netemeyer; granddaughter, Josie Walker; siblings, Katie (Elmer) Loepker, Ray (Marilyn) Toennies, and Jerry Toennies; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Mildred (née Wildhaber) Wegmann, Sr.; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin Toennies, Alfred (Pat) Toennies, Dolores “Dot” (Chuck) Goestenkors, Albin “Bones” Toennies, and Louis Wobbe.

A 1963 graduate of Mater Dei Catholic High School and a 1964 graduate of Bailey Technical College in St. Louis, Rich began his career at Basler Electric in Highland before joining Toennies Service Co. in Damiansville, where he worked as an HVAC Technician for many years. He was a faithful member of St. Damian Catholic Church and Holy Name, as well as an active member of the Damiansville Development Club.

Rich played a pivotal role in establishing the men’s slow pitch softball league in Clinton County. As manager of the Fuehne’s Tavern men’s team, he guided his players to numerous league and tournament championships—an accomplishment that brought him great pride.

Rich will be remembered for his love of euchre, woodworking, fishing, and his remarkable sweet tooth. More than anything, he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. His kindness, sense of humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Fr. Matthew Elie presiding and assisted by Deacon Glenn Netemeyer and Deacon Kevin Templin. Interment will follow at St. Damian Cemetery, Damiansville.
