    Daniel J. “Dan” Nicklin, age 76, of Aviston, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 24, 1949, in Streator, Illinois, a son of the late Raymond and Anne (nee Galick) Nicklin.

     

    Dan married Mary Nicklin (nee Biroschik) on August 9, 1969, at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Streator and she survives in Aviston. Dan is also survived by his children, Dan (Stephanie) Nicklin of Highland, Corey (Michelle) Nicklin of Aviston, Shane (Jennifer Riegel) Nicklin of Highland, Joel Nicklin of Gilbert, SC, Curt (Cara) Nicklin of Columbia, SC, and Brett (Jessica) Nicklin of Breese; grandchildren, Leanora, Cole, Parker, Connor, Kennedy, Paige, Angie (Andrew) Woodall, Kelsey, Tyler (McAyla), Jonah, Ashden, Sam, Dylan, Grace, Alexis (Justin) Hilmes, Bentley, Lennon, and Josh Oliver; great-grandchildren, Kolt, Violet, Aleczander, and Asher; brothers-in-law, Terry Biroschik and Mike Biroschik, both of Lexington, KY; and nieces and nephews.

     

    In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Madison Alexandra Nicklin; siblings, Marg (George) Balke, Ray Nicklin, Ralph (Dorothy) Nicklin, and Fred (Mary Lou) Nicklin; sisters-in-law, Jackie Biroschik and Barb Biroschik.

     

    Dan formerly taught high school math in Minonk, Illinois, and more recently worked at Aviston Lumber. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston, the Greater Carlyle Bowling Association, and the Professional Bowlers Association. Throughout his bowling career, Dan received numerous awards, including the rare achievement of bowling multiple 300 games. He was an avid bowler and also greatly enjoyed fishing.

     

    Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese with Fr. Dan Friedman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston.

     

    Visitation will be Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 9:00 – 12:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Mater Dei Catholic High School Sports Programs, or Central Community High School Sports Programs and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St., Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
