James R. “Jim” “Can Man” Peek, age 64, of Beckemeyer, passed away Monday, April 20, 2026, at Carlyle Healthcare Center. He was born August 9, 1960, in East St. Louis, IL, a son of the late William and Grace (nee Thompson) Peek.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his uncles.

Jim is survived by his siblings, William Leroy Peek of Beckemeyer, Debbie (Juan) Marino of Carbondale, David Peek of Beckemeyer, and Connie Peek of Beckemeyer; and nieces and nephews.

Jim formerly worked at the National City Stockyards in East St. Louis as a Weigh Master. He was a creative and skilled craftsman who enjoyed making jewelry, including earrings, bracelets, and dream catchers. Jim also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and spent much of his time fishing, camping, and hiking.

A visitation will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to the Cherokee Nation Foundation and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th Street, Breese, IL 62230, which is serving the family.
