- Full Obituary
Severin A. “Sep” Loepker, age 87, of Breese and formerly of Bartelso, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at his home.
He was born December 17, 1938, in Bartelso, a son of the late Joseph and Isabella, nee Wichmann, Loepker.
Sep was formerly married to Dorothy, nee Gebke, Loepker, and together they shared four children who survive: Kenny (Terri) Loepker, Karla (Charlie) Becker, Jerry (Patty) Loepker, and Melinda (Shane) Tolley, all of Bartelso. He was a proud grandfather to Brandon Loepker, Blain (Alyssa) Loepker, Jordan (friend, Cierra Michael) Loepker, Katie Becker, Jamie (Austin) Frazier, Patrick (Katie) Loepker, Chad (Kim) Rakers, Christopher (Shaina) Rakers, Cory (Amanda) Rakers, and Curtis (friend, Alycia Greer) Rakers. Sep was also blessed with 22 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his longtime companion, Judy Becker of Highland: and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Dylan Loepker; a great-grandson, Landon Detmer; and siblings, Annie Loepker, Charlie (Florence) Loepker, Paul (Fran) Loepker, Louis Loepker, Sr. Mary Maurice, ASC, Rosemary (John) McDowell, and Margie (Alois) Beckmann.
Sep was born and raised in Bartelso and later made his home in Breese. He retired from Korte Construction in Highland in 2003 after many years as a carpenter foreman, where he oversaw numerous construction projects and earned the respect of coworkers and friends alike for his strong work ethic and leadership.
A faithful member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, Sep also remained deeply devoted to his home parish, St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso. He served his parish in many capacities over the years, including parish council member and secretary, treasurer, vice-president, and president of the Men’s Sodality. He was also a former Grand Knight and secretary of the Bartelso Knights of Columbus Council 4745 and a former manager of the Bartelso Softball Team.
Retirement allowed Sep to enjoy many of the hobbies and passions he loved most. An avid golfer, he proudly played golf in all fifty states and Canada and achieved the remarkable feat of recording three hole-in-ones, along with organizing the Loepker Open every year on Father’s Day. He was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan and a lifelong admirer of John Deere tractors. Sep also enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, picking pecans, baking zucchini bread, gardening, tending to his flowers, country line dancing, and traveling.
Above all, Sep treasured his family. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso with Fr. Thomas Lugge presiding. Interment will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, May 22, 2026, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to the Bartelso Grade School Golf Team, St. Cecilia Parish, or Mater Dei Catholic High School and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, PO Box 117, Germantown, IL 62245, which is serving the family.
