Patricia E. “Patty” Huiras, age 60, of Mascoutah, IL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 2, 1965, in St. Paul, MN, a daughter of the late Joseph G. and Lorraine V. (nee Grundtner) Merkl.
Patty married Frederick J. Huiras IV on May 5, 1990, at Church of the Assumption Catholic Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with many years of love and devotion, and he survives her in Mascoutah.
In addition to her husband, Patty is survived by her children, Natalie (Gage Simmons) Huiras of Frankfort, KY and Frederick “Joe”(Alexis Calvert) Huiras V of Mascoutah, IL; siblings, Joe Merkl of St. Paul, MN, Mary Ellen Carroll of Shoreview, MN, Ann (Mike) Strommer of White Bear Lake, MN, and Therese (Dave) Rice of Roseville, MN; mother-in-law, Charlene (nee LaFevor) Huiras of Watertown, TN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Brent (Mary) Huiras of Mascoutah, IL, Janet (Terry) Turner of Watertown, TN, and David (Dawn) Huiras of Freeburg, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Frederick Huiras III; and brother-in-law, Kevin Carroll.
Patty dedicated many years of service to the banking industry and retired as a teller from First Mid Bank & Trust. A woman of deep faith, she was a member of Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic Church in Mascoutah and actively participated in St. Clare Bible Study in Shiloh. She also held a special connection to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, where she attended many Masses and special events throughout the years.
Above all else, Patty’s greatest joy was her family and her faith. She and her husband, Fred, shared a special love for the Missouri Botanical Garden, where they spent many happy days together. Patty was also a phenomenal cook who expressed her love through the meals and treasured family recipes she prepared for those she loved.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Assumption, St. Paul, MN, on Friday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m., with a visitation preceding the Mass. Interment at Roselawn Cemetery will follow immediately after the service.
Memorials in honor of Patty may be made to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows and will be received by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th Street, Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
