Samaleen V. “Sam” Kohlbrecher, age 79, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Evercare of Breese. She was born on September 8, 1947, in Rochester, MN, the daughter of the late Samuel and Francis (nee Jones) Zieman.
On February 22, 1968, she married Charles J. Kohlbrecher at St. Mary’s Church in Trenton. She is survived by her husband Charles; her son Brad (Kristine) Kohlbrecher of St. Charles, MO; grandchildren Olivia (Caroline) Kohlbrecher and Emily (Leah) Kohlbrecher; nieces, Scarlett and Dana; and a cousin Alice Zieman.
Sam was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Pamela (infancy); siblings, Samuel Richard Zieman and Samie Cox; parents-in-law, Alphonse & Irene (nee Peters) Kohlbrecher; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Sandra) Kohlbrecher and Eugene Kohlbrecher; and aunt, Tarsa M. Ward.
Throughout her life, Sam was known for her sharp mind and meticulous nature, which served her well during her career as a bookkeeper. Over the years, she lent her talents to several local organizations, including St. Louis First National Bank and the Trenton Library. She eventually retired from Gutter Helmet, leaving behind a reputation for hard work and reliability.
Sam’s faith and heritage were central pillars of her life. She was a devout and faithful member of St. Mary's Church in Trenton, where she found great fellowship and spiritual comfort. Additionally, she took great pride in her American heritage, actively serving as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) – Belleville Chapter and the Daughters of the Union.
Those who knew Sam will fondly remember her immense creativity and artistic eye. She was happiest when working with her hands, dedicating much of her free time to scrapbooking, crafts, and oil painting. Sam possessed a generous heart and a desire to help others. The Lupus Foundation was very near and dear to her heart, and she was proud to be a long-time supporter of their mission.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. George Zieba officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Trenton.
In lieu of flowers, plants, or other gifts, memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St., Breese, IL 62230, which is serving the family.
