Lawrence E. “Larry” Hillyer

Lawrence E. “Larry” Hillyer, age 74, of Breese, IL, and formerly of Orange Beach, AL, passed away Monday, September 14, 2026, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, MO. He was born February 12, 1952, in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Charles L. and Jeanette G. (nee Steven) Hillyer.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Suzanne Hillyer (nee Foss) whom he married February 12, 1992, in Sandusky, OH and she died February 14, 2021; and sister, Linda Clements.

Larry is survived by his daughters, Carolyn (Derek) Laird of Breese and Kimberly (Terry) Ludewig of Ohio; grandchildren, Alexander Laird, George William Laird, Joseph (Sydney) Ludewig, and Jourdan Ludewig; great-grandchildren, Theo and Kathryn Maria Ludewig and Remy Ludewig; siblings, Lorraine (Joe) Mattson of Arizona, Leanne (Michael) Pompei of Pennsylvania, and Lori Hillyer of Pennsylvania; brother-in-law, Jerry Clements of Arizona; and a niece and nephew.

Throughout his life, Larry traveled extensively and called many places across the country home, including Orange Beach, AL, before most recently settling in Breese, IL. He was currently employed at Farm Fresh Market in Breese and had spent many years working in grocery and hardware stores.

Larry was a man who enjoyed working with his hands and appreciated the simple things in life. He especially enjoyed building and collecting model trains, painting ceramics, listening to music, and spending time fishing.

Per Larry’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.

Memorials in Larry’s honor may be made to the wishes of the family (checks payable to Carolyn Laird) and will be received by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th Street, Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
