Kevin J. Alberternst, 57, of St. Rose, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Mr. Alberternst was born October 2, 1956 in Highland, IL to Marcella (Woltering) and John Alberternst, Sr..

He married Carolyn Tebbe on May 23, 1981 at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose; she survives in St. Rose.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a son, Sean (April) Alberternst of St. Rose and granddaughters, Rylee Jo and Raegan; son, Joshua (Katie) Alberternst of Carlyle and granddaughter, Lexi Rae; daughter, Kayla Jo (special friend Aaron Buskirk) Alberternst of St. Rose; mother, Marcella Alberternst of St. Rose; siblings, Randy Alberternst of St. Rose, Sandy Alberternst of Highland, John Alberternst, Jr. of St. Rose, Laurie (Frank) Rebholz of High Ridge, MO, and Angela Alberternst of Chesterfield, MO; mother-in-law, Gladys (Knebel) Tebbe of St. Rose; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Tebbe of St. Rose, Joe (Jan) Tebbe of St. Rose, Rich (Chrysa) Tebbe of St. Rose, Dennis (Norma) Tebbe of Waxahachie, TX, Kathy (KJ) Jansen of St. Rose, and Joanie (Doug) Willis of St. Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Alberternst, Sr.; father-in-law, Walter Tebbe; and nephews, Jeremy Tebbe and Jeremy Davis.

Kevin retired as a mine worker for Monterey Coal in Albers in 1996 and worked at Monterey Coal in Carlinville from 1998 to 2007; was a former truck driver for Timmermann Milk Service in St. Rose; and as a mine worker for Strata Mine Services in Litchfield and Harrisburg.

He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Men's Sodality, and Parish Faith Group, St. Rose Development Club, and UMWA Local 2295-Albers and Local 1613-Carlinville.

Mr. Alberternst enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to races, camping, traveling, antiquing, helping his sons with the family business, but most of all spending time with his granddaughters.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 11:00 am-1:30 pm at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Education was very important to Kevin and memorials can be made to his granddaughter's education fund, Mater Dei High School, or St. Rose Church and will be received at the funeral home.
