Jerome R. “Jerry” Ganz, age 67 of Germantown, born January 22, 1949 in Belleville, a son of the late Jerome “Jack” and Helen, nee Hund, Ganz, died Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Countryside Manor in Aviston.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Connie, nee Friederich, Ganz, whom he married November 10, 1972 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah and she died July 24, 2015; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norbert and Dorothy, nee Lickenbrock, Friederich; and a nephew, Michael Friederich.
Surviving are his children, Brian (Shelly) Ganz of Arenzville, Robert (Shelly) Ganz of Germantown, and Becky Ganz of Jacksonville; 4 grandchildren, Bailey, Madelynn, and Ava Ganz, and Owen Ganz; his siblings, Tom (Connie) Ganz of Nashville, Mick (Kim) Ganz of Okawville, Debbie (Roger) Green of Venedy, Pat (Nancy) Ganz of Okawville, and Terrie (Eddie) Kurwicki of Nashville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arnold (friend Twyla Formoso) Friederich of New Baden, Joanne (David) Jung of Mascoutah, Vivian (Jim) Haland of Medicine Hat, Canada, Norbert (Renee) Friederich of Mascoutah, and Wayne (Mona) Friederich of Mascoutah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry served in the United States Navy as a cook from 1967-1971, was a meat cutter with Local 534 in Belleville, former owner and operator of Ganz’s Butcher Chop in Mascoutah, and retired from DCA Construction in Breese as a carpenter. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown and the Germantown American Legion Post 325, and was a former member of the Germantown Kernel Nut Club and the Albers American Legion Post 1026. Jerry enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby presiding. Interment with full military honors will take place in St. Damian Cemetery, Damiansville.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.
The Germantown American Legion will hold services at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Jared Burke Foundation and will be received at the funeral home.
