Eugene A. Rehkemper, age 77, of St. Rose, born August 28, 1939 in St. Rose, a son of the late Frank and Rosa, nee Hoh, Rehkemper, died Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Highland Healthcare Center.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Rehkemper; a brother, Cornelius Rehkemper; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Mary, nee Kampwerth, Buehne; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lorene Rehkemper, Rita Rehkemper, Esther and Ed Thole, Lucille and Louis Thole, Carol Moss, Regina Buehne and Geraldine Buehne.
Surviving is his wife Lorene, nee Buehne, Rehkemper of St. Rose, whom he married October 13, 1959 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland; a son Tim (Mary) Rehkemper of St. Rose; a daughter, Mary Kay Rehkemper of Edwardsville; 4 grandchildren, Emily (friend Tony O’Rourke) and Lydia Rehkemper, Garrett and Justin Gieseking; 1 great-grandchild, Harper O’Rourke; siblings, Jerome (Joanne) Rehkemper of St. Rose, Paul (Jeanette) Rehkemper of St. Rose, Francis (Rose) Rehkemper of Breese, and Tom Rehkemper of St. Louis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norbert (Betty) Buehne of Aviston, Imogene (Leon) Luber of Highland, Eugene Buehne of St. Rose, and Ron (Mary Jo) Moss of Highland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene was a lifelong carpenter and contractor and was the co-owner/operator of Rehkemper Construction in St. Rose. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose where he was involved with the Men’s Sodality and the Parish Council, St. Rose Development Club, former Chief of the St. Rose Fire Department, Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869 and the Carpenters Local 480.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer presiding. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, June 19, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
Memorials may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church, St. Rose Fire Department, or to Heartland Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
