Susan B. “Sue” Ayers, nee Holtkamp, age 61, of Aviston, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Mrs. Ayers was born August 23, 1956 in Highland, a daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy, nee Strieker, Holtkamp.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Mike Bedard, Gary Ayers, and Roy Ayers.
She is survived by her husband Richard Ayers of Aviston, whom she married July 23, 1983 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston; step-children, Erin Krutsinger and Jamie (Jennifer) Ayers all of Flora; grandchildren, Brittany Arbuckle, Gage Krutsinger, Owen and Maddie Ayers; great-grandchildren, Reed and Ryker Tolliver; siblings, Judi (Roger) Vaughn of Petersburg, IL, Mary Kay Bedard of Breese, Connie Holtkamp of Highland, Ron (Lynn) Holtkamp of Highland, Jean (Tom) Deiters of Breese, and Marcia (Ed) Nowicki of Haddonfield, NJ; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary (John) Hoskins of Denver, CO, Priscilla (Bill) Wright of Indianapolis, IN, Wanda Gentry of Grand Rapids, MI, and Jim (Patty) Padgett of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sue received her Masters Degree in Education from SIU-Edwardsville and retired in 2012 from Carlyle Grade School. After her retirement, she taught PSR and substituted at Aviston Grade School. She enjoyed reading to the clients at Community Link and doing crafts and painting, especially scrapbooking and making her own cards.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston with Fr. Daniel Friedman presiding. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Aviston.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9:00-10:45 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston.
Memorials may be made to Community Link and will be received at the church or through Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th, Breese, IL 62230 who is serving the Ayers family.
