Raymond A. Usselman, age 88, of Breese, died Monday, June 25, 2018 at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, MO.

 

Mr. Usselman was born June 28, 1929, a son of the late William and Wilhelmina, nee Deerhake, Usselman.  He married Florence Hilmes August 2, 1950 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Beckemeyer.

 

Mr. Usselman is survived by his wife; children, Ronald Usselman of Chicago, Daretia (Andrew) Schuler of San Antonio, TX, Deborah Ann Usselman of Jacksonville, FL, Raymond Usselman, Jr. of Highland, and Richard Usselman of Pacific, WA; grandchildren, Bryan (Chelessa) Usselman, Jessica (Steve) Vaicik, and Christopher Mank; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Usselman and Elliana May and Nolan Vaicik; siblings Andrew “Bud” Usselman of Breese, Julieana (Sylvester) Hilmes of Breese, and Irene Ziegler of Park Forest; brothers-in-law Donald Boehn of Florissant, MO, and Nick Timmermann of St. Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Dorothy Usselman; siblings Dorothy Buller and her husband Ferdinand “Virgil,” Evelyn Drees and her husband Joseph, Veronica Boehn, Margaret Timmermann, Mary Ann Usselman, and Florence Usselman; and brother-in-law Thomas Ziegler.

 

Mr. Usselmann previously served as a millwright at Granite City Steel and a bus driver for Breese Elementary District 12.  He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Men’s Sodality, United Steelworkers of America Local 67 in Granite City, Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR), Clinton County Farm Bureau, and Catholic Holy Family Society (formerly Catholic Fraternal Life).

 

Visitation will be Friday, June 29, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese.

 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Charles Tuttle presiding.  Interment will follow in St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.

 

Per the family’s request, in lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice and will be received at the church.
