Herman L. Essert 83 of Breese died Monday May 7, 2012 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born October 28, 1928 in Eichenbuehl, Germany to August and Rosa (Meidel) Essert: they preceded him in death.
Also preceded in death by a great grandson Carter Ackermann, a sister Lydia Miltenberger, father and Mother-in-law August and Tillie Baehr, brothers-in-law Joseph Miltenberger, Tony Hoernig.
He married Mildred Baehr October 27, 1956 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Bloomfield NJ and she survives in Breese.
Also surviving are his children Michael “Mitch” (Carol) Essert of Columbia, Lynn (Blake) Lalli of Roswell GA, Peggy (Michael) Korte of Grantfork.
8 grandchildren Kyle (Michelle) Essert, Kristin (Ryan) Ackermann, Aaron Essert, Nelson Lalli, Taylor Lalli, Paige Fox, Michaela Korte, Jack Korte.
2 great grandchildren Kenly Ackermann, Landon Essert.
A sister Alma Hoernig of Eichenbuehl Germany.
Sister-in-law Linda (Ray) Brosch of Breese.
Herman formerly owned and operated the Knotty Pine Inn and Motel in Breese from 1954 to 1990. He was a Marine Veteran.; he enjoyed and cherished his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. An avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards especially pinochle.
Member of St. Dominic Church in Breese, American Legion Post 252 in Breese, Knights of Columbus Council 2869, Breese Lions Club where he served as past president, Founding member of the Breese Bent Oak golf course, Clinton County Tavern Owners Association where he was past president and treasurer.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday May 11, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be Thursday May 10 from 4 to 8 PM and Friday May 11 from 9 to 9:45 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
Breese Knights of Columbus will hold services Thursday at 7:00 PM, Breese American Legion services at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, St. Dominic Church or St. Louis Children's Hospital and will be received at the funeral home.
