Robert J. “Bob” Smith, of Trenton, baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection, Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the age of 92.
Bob was a loving, caring and devout husband to the late Betty M., nee Siekmann, Smith; beloved son of the late Oliver and Margie, nee Odell, Smith; dearest father of Kathleen (Edward) Kessels of Highland, Susan (Patrick) Meyers of Staunton, Daniel (the late Paula) Smith of Cape Girardeau, MO, and David (Geri) Smith of Aviston; proud grandfather to Michael Kessels, Patricia (Robert) Gagnon, Katie (Todd) Gray, Jennifer Smith, David Smith, Kyle Smith, Matt (Zoe) Smith, Scott Smith, Laura (Clifton) Gentry, Andrew (Sarah) Smith, Aubrey (Caleb) Ward, Stephanie (Travis) Olson and twenty five great-grandchildren; beloved brother of Jack Smith of St. Louis; beloved uncle, great-uncle, and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his brother Bill (Janet) Smith; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law June Smith and Ed Siekmann.
Bob was born and raised in St. Louis. He attended Beaumont High School where he met his wife Betty, whom he married May 22, 1948 and they shared 72 beautiful and loving years together. Bob was a veteran of the United States Navy and later the owner/operator of Brown Machinery & Supply in St. Louis, MO where he worked for many years. He was a member at the Elks Club and Hummingbird Club in Washington, MO. He enjoyed fly fishing, woodworking, and especially his many grandchildren. His legacy will live on for eternity within our hearts and memories.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton
A private graveside service will follow at Highland City Cemetery with Deacon Charles Litteken officiating.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main St., Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
